Ceska Trebova is one of the oldest towns in the East of Bohemia. The oldest part of the town was a small settlement on the right bank of the river Trebovka. Under the rule of Premysl Otakar the Second another settlement was founded on the left bank of the river. It belonged together with others to the estate of the Castle Lansperk. The oldest written documents are dated back to the 14th century. They are written in Czech. Before the Hussite wars Ceska Trebova belonged to the estate of Litomysl Bishop, after the Hussite wars to Kostka of Postupice, Vilem Pernstejn and Petr Bohdanecky of Hodkov. The last owner had built a new townhall. It was built in the Renaissance style and decorated with his Coat-of-arms. Under the rule of George of Podebrady the Czech country was attacted by the armies of Matyas Korvin and a lost division of the army was killed here in the valley known as the Hungarian valley nowadays. It was in 1469. The citizens lived in peace believing the great ideas of Czech Brothers and a humanism. In the 17th century however the town became a part of Prince Lichtensteins estate. Prince Lichtenstein oppressed all the Hussite traditions and cancelled most of privileges, the citizens were forced to become catholics. In the Thirty Years War in 1636 nearly all the town was destroyed by fire. In spite of all misery folk art developed in this lost part of the country. The National Revival brings new life to the town. The national revivalists - Jan Hybl, Frantisek Matous Klacel and others appear and in 1848 Frantisek Rybicka becomes the first Czech Mayor of the town. On 20th August 1845 a railway track was opened for the train Olomouc-Ceska Trebova-Prague. And four years later the first train left Brno to continue to Ceska Trebova and Prague.
