Cerny Dul - Cerna hora - Luciny

Vitkovice in Reuzengebergte

- twee/drie nieuwe (lange) pistes. Vergt dus kapwerkzaamheden.

Edit:
Nog wat informatie gezocht. Op mapy.cz kwam ik dit tegen: https://en.mapy.cz/s/jesofupose
Met daarbij de volgende nieuws artikelen (november 2019):
https://krkonossky.denik.cz/zpravy_...ojeni-medvedina-a-svateho-petra-20191120.html
https://www.novinky.cz/cestovani/clanek/propojeni-skiarealu-je-nejbliz-spindleruv-mlyn-40304928

- positieve milieu effecten beoordeling is binnen, echte bouw begint daarmee komend jaar!

We zullen zien.

Engelse vertaling:

Preparations are in full swing! Already this winter, you can ride new slopes in Špindlerův Mlýn. You can look forward to a whole range of news.

Parts of two brand new slopes will be prepared for skiing, as well as a major expansion of the existing ones. All this supplemented by the most modern snowmaking systems. Investments in campus development currently amount to 300 million crowns.

general-view-on-the-side-of-Saint-Peter

The project of connecting the Špindlerův campuses Svatý Petr and Medvědín has been talked about for a long time. However, after years of preparatory work and the necessary permitting processes, it was finally implemented this year. Already this season, thanks to 2350 m of new tracks and generous modifications to the existing ones, you can treat yourself to more space while skiing and a significantly better sports experience.

News in Hromovce and in St. Peter

So what specifically awaits you in Spindle? Let's start at the Hromovka upper station, where you won't recognize it this year. It is precisely in these places that the brand new red slope starts , which was named "Přehradní" , and which leads from there to the future cable car terminal connecting Svatý Petr and Medvědín. This new red piste has a wonderful profile and will be really fantastic to ski on, even though it won't be possible all the way down this year. At about halfway, the skiers join the existing tourist route, which we have modified so that everyone from the Přehradní ski slope can comfortably get back to the lower Hromovka station. This will create a completely new route more than 1750 meters long, which will significantly expand and improve the skiing possibilities in Špindl.. Modern technical snowmaking in this new part of the ski resort is a matter of course.

That's not all. The most popular and thus the busiest blue slope on the St.Petersburg side of the ski resort has undergone a major expansion. This consists in the removal of wood and in the landscaping of both the existing straight parts and, above all, the many sharp turns. Until now, these have often functioned as a kind of "bottle neck", i.e. a place where skiers are dangerously concentrated in a very small space. Modrá is now overall straighter, up to 50 meters wide, with several open, clear and safe turns. All skiers will certainly appreciate this change.

Transformation of Vodovodní and the new slope on Medvědín

Even the bear side is not left behind. This year, too , a new ski slope with technical snowmaking was built here , which will soon serve as part of the connection from Medvědín to Hromovka and to St. Peter. It's called "Lesní" and already this year you can ride it by turning from the red slope , from where you will be able to cut arcs on a 50 m wide track up to the point where it crosses the Vodárenská slope, after which you will return to the Medvědín cable car. However, even this new route has already been completely built further, up to the location of the future cable car terminal.

The list of news still does not end here. The route known as Vodovodní, which until now served more as a departure route connecting Mísečky with the Medvědín lower station, has undergone a complete transformation. The path, which could only be skied on when there was enough snow, became twice as wide. Essentially a completely new full-fledged blue slope with modern technical snowmaking. Due to the popularity and busyness of the blue tracks, it will have snowmaking priority.

spindl-nova-sjezdovka.png

What happened in Spindle or how the ski slope is built

OCTOBER 11, 20231926 MINUTES
spindl-nova-zjazdovka-gopass.jpg

We have already revealed the wonderful news about two completely new slopes in Špindlerův.

But how is such a slope actually built, and what all must be observed during its creation? Take a look with us behind the scenes of a project that has no analogues in the Czech mountains.

Protection of the nature

The most important factor influencing the entire process is that the Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Resort is located in the Krkonoše National Park and its protective zone. Therefore, all planned modifications had to be consulted in advance with representatives of the KRNAP Administration. In addition, in accordance with the legislation, it was necessary to prepare an environmental impact study, the so-called EIA, for the entire project and to find a variant acceptable to all parties involved.
The protection of nature is our top priority and we do everything to minimize interference with it. For example, we reduced the area that had to be deforested by 60% compared to the original plans, and we fully respect the rules resulting from the EIA study when carrying out individual works.
René Hroneš, director of Špindlerův Mlýn Ski Area

Everything has its rules

The first step towards a new safe slope is the implementation of the so-called forest stabilization measures. It was essentially a "thinning" of the vegetation along the route of the future slopes, which took place many months in advance. Its aim was to ensure the strengthening and stability of the trees, which until now stood in the middle of the forest, and which now, after the final removal for the slopes, found themselves in the open, exposed to difficult weather conditions. Of course, the procedure for this activity is also fixed. When harvesting parts of forest stands, but also when widening sharp turns on existing slopes, the work had to be planned with regard to the spring and autumn growth of trees. The observance of all forest stabilization measures was overseen by a special biological supervisor.
The slope, which has been deforested and cleared of large stones, must then be leveled and modeled as approved in the project. It is at this stage that the final relief of the slope is created. In some parts, it was created by experienced employees of the ski resort and professional supplier companies. In other so-called no-interference zones, where dredging is not possible, the form and slopes of the slope had to remain almost unchanged. To ensure that the slope is stable and that the soil on it does not erode, water drainage channels are used, which are implemented across the slope at regular intervals.
The next step in the preparation of downhill areas is their greening. Even this has strict conditions set by experts from the KRNAP Administration . The entire surface of the slopes was first sown with grass seed and then mulch was spread. The use of a particular type varies by location and altitude. As a result, some parts of the new slopes are already turning green with new grass.

Ant work

All work on the extensive project of connecting the northern and southern slopes of Špindlerův Mlýn is carried out by specialized companies in close cooperation with the employees of the area, with the assistance and under the regular scrutiny of nature protection authorities. The construction equipment always moved only in previously reserved corridors so as not to damage the meadows where, for example, the legally protected bluebell grows. And what if the collision of technology with nature could not be avoided? A frugal solution was always found. Transplanting rare plants or even moving an entire anthill was no exception. All of this, of course, again under the expert supervision of nature conservationists.
As you can see, building a state-of-the-art ski facility in the middle of nature is about collaboration, finding thoughtful compromises and careful planning. But everyone will benefit from the result in the long run. The benefit of the changes for this season and the future connection of the areas will not only be greater comfort and safety for skiers, but also fewer cars in the city or more ecological operation of the area.

Engelse google translate:

Two slopes have been added in Špindl. But the construction of the connecting terminal will be delayed, says the director of the Ski Area

The project of connecting the Svatý Petr and Medvědín campuses is a historical vision that was created under the previous operator at the turn of the millennium. In 2006, real thinking and projecting began. This gave the plan a concrete form, which means connecting the areas with two cable cars. The project was included in the master plan in 2012. "Due to a significant increase in price, we now had to rework the project and otherwise phase it out, because the costs would have risen from 750 million to 1.3 billion," says the director of the Špindlerův Mlýn campuses, René Hroneš.

In those years, Melida from the TMR group was not yet the operator of the area. How did you develop the project after taking over the premises?

Our company Melida took over the project and continued to fulfill this vision. When we got to a more concrete stage, an EIA study had to be prepared. That was a run for several years. To obtain the necessary stamps and permit procedures within the national park.

And how is the project progressing?

In 2018 and 2019, we reached a specific stage of finished projects and timetable. We had a selected general contractor and the entire project was calculated at 750 million crowns.

What exactly did the connection project contain in the final?

At that time, the plan was to implement the construction within two years. We should have been able to fulfill that, but covid-19 came and the season that was not. Subsequently, everything became more expensive, the energy crisis, the war in Ukraine, inflation and other complications came. So we got into a situation where the project had to be recalculated and the investment increased to 1.3 billion crowns from the planned 750 million.

Two new slopes are ready for this season. What preceded it?

At the end of last year, we obtained all the necessary permits. In January, we deforested areas for two new slopes. Due to the enormous increase in the budget, however, the original schedule of works is no longer based on the possibility of financing. That is why we had to re-phase the entire project and before this season we are investing 300 million crowns, which will go into the completion of new slopes and the installation of snowmaking so that three kilometers of new slopes will be ready before the start of the season. We wanted to bring as many visible innovations as possible to our skis in the very first phase of the project.

Did you also work on modifications to existing tracks?

Yes. We have significantly expanded both blue slopes, which are traditionally the busiest and most popular. And because they were overloaded, we completely changed the blue slope in St. Peter, which is the busiest. We also fundamentally changed the blue one on Medvědín, which until this year was dependent only on natural snow, so we installed a snowmaking system that will enable full operation. Skiers will recognize the changes immediately.

So how does it currently look with the giant project of connecting the Svatý Petr and Medvědín campuses with a new transfer terminal in the Elbe valley?

In this case, it is a huge investment that we are not able to handle within the planned two years and we have to spread it over a longer period of time. As I mentioned earlier, we invested 300 million this year, but the investment in the complete project has increased enormously due to external reasons. In addition to the amount of costs, we are limited by the fact that we have a ceiling on the company's indebtedness and thus limited financing options. We have to phase it here so that we borrow some and earn the rest ourselves.

So will the project be modified in any way to reduce costs?

We are currently dealing with the fact that, as the project was originally developed, it cannot be realized in the current macroeconomic situation. That is why we are talking about how we could build cable cars and slopes as quickly as possible, so that it would bring a financial effect. The new plan is that the ends of the slopes and the lower station of the cable cars will be on the ground, and not on the roof of the parking terminal.

Is Špindl infrastructurally ready to accommodate an even greater number of skiers who will visit the new and existing slopes?

We have expanded the tracks, so the safety and comfort of skiing will improve even more. The accommodation capacity of Špindl is somewhere between 13 and 16 thousand beds, so the capacity is enormous. The city, on the other hand, is struggling with the fact that attendance is not growing, but stagnating. Our goal is to reverse this trend and make Spindle a holiday resort. Two to three five-star hotels should be built in Špindlerův Mlýn in the foreseeable future. It's about getting clients for a longer stay and not just for one-day skiing. This would also free up the parking spaces occupied by these skiers.

How does Špindl want to compete with the alpine slopes that Czech skiers have come to love and many prefer over domestic slopes?

We really cannot compete with the alpine resorts in terms of the height of the mountains or the number of kilometers of slopes. On the other hand, everyone only has one leg and if you ski twenty kilometers a day on four slopes or on two hundred tracks, it doesn't matter, because you can't handle more anyway.

So what is the advantage that you want to convince skiers to start going to the Krkonoše Mountains more?

It is primarily about the available distance from Prague, the Central Bohemian Region and other larger cities. The Krkonoše Mountains can be mastered both for day skiing and for weekend skiing. This is definitely not the type of trip that could be taken to Austria.

What about the prices? Many skiers already say that it often works out cheaper abroad than staying in the highest Czech mountains.

I would dare to oppose that, because we also do business in Austria, we know the market there and we know how much it costs there. The costs of Austrian centers for their own business are in many ways lower than in the Czech Republic. For example, in energy prices, but the mantra that a week of skiing in the Alps is significantly cheaper than in the Giant Mountains is not true. Except that you would stay thirty kilometers from the site with a carton of pilsner and food bought at home at a discount. But that is not the type of stay and skiing that we offer in Špindl. In addition, we offer ski passes with dynamic prices that allow you to find cheaper days. But it needs to be planned. It's the same as with plane tickets. They are much more expensive directly at the airport than when bought ahead of time.
