Vietnamees restaurant in Praag
![]() Here in Prague, it is difficult to find good Vietnamese food. One good Pho can be found among the stalls at the always colorful Pražka Tržnice (see photo). Walk straight from the main entrance towards the back. On the right side, just in front of hall 29 is an Asian Občerstvení selling various westernized and MSG laden food. However, the Pho, which is not on the menu, but is displayed on a picture below the counter, is an excellent approximation. Unfortunately they do not give you fresh basil and chilies and lime along with it, but they do top the broth with some fresh coriander and spring onions. The broth is a rich, chicken flavored affair, clear and with the hints of anise and clove that make Pho such a special dish. Being a non meat eater (but one who can tolerate a broth made from chicken) I usually order it with fried tofu and vegetables. For Prague, where it is often difficult to find food made with fresh ingredients, it is a more than passable facsimile of the original. The price of a large bowl is 70 kč, making it a good deal for lunch. Another Vietnamese restaurant is Restaurace Dong Do (I don’t have Vietnamese alphabet on my machine here, but the D have little crosses through them). I have not tried their Pho, but it comes highly recommended from the Vietnamese vegetable sellers in the ground floor of my apartment building. It can be a bit expensive as I understand. Restaurace Dong Do Vítězné nám. 684/4 Libuš-Sapa Praha 4 Tel. (0724) 04 07 27. Open daily except Sun. 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-11 p.m. Prices: 300-350 Kč. |
